The New Education Policy -2020 , which has replaced the earlier policy introduced 34 years ago, envisaged for some transformational reforms in the Indian education system. It talks about the educational system that lays emphasis on experiential learning along with a focus on skills like critical thinking, problem solving etc.
The emphasis is on Holistic and Multidisciplinary education with flexibility of subjects and provisions for multiple exit and entry. Multiple exit/entry and the credit bank will give students lot of flexibility in getting educated and earning degrees while they are working and taking decisions based on career choices. With multiple exit points in studies, one could get into employment at different ages, different times, and different levels of education which is a thoughtful strategic structure.
Multidisciplinary and Holistic learning is an innovative medium through which students can learn humanities, mathematics, sciences ,technologies , professional skills , vocational skills, social sciences, human values, morality, ethics and so on at the same time. It aims at overall development of the students by providing them the knowledge of different fields at the undergraduate and post graduate level. The college affiliation system which prevented curriculum innovations will be phased out. This will allow industry-linked curriculum and faster modifications based on industry’s needs, therefore helping the students in placements.
The NEP focuses more on technological innovations which will ultimately leads to better and improved teaching - learning process and better evaluation of the student progress. Technology driven learning is more flexible and collaborative as compared to traditional formats like classroom learning as through technology teachers can extend learning beyond the classrooms..
