The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered new ways of learning all around the
world. Educational institutions are looking toward online learning platforms to
continue with the process of educating students in a more innovative
manner of learning which is also referred to as Technology Enhanced
Learning (TEL) or e-Learning.
This
led the National Education Policy 2020 to focus on the significance of online
education with simultaneous acknowledgment of its probable risks and dangers.
This policy demands for careful evaluation by appropriate pilot studies to
determine how the benefits of online/digital education can be reaped by mitigating
its downsides.
With the
emergence of technology, this Policy recommends the initiatives in the area of
teachers training, digital infrastructure, online learning tools, online
assessments and examinations with blended education and appropriate standards.
NEP expects
the teachers to have basic understanding of using various digital forms of
learning. However, many of the schools don’t have the necessary resources &
tools to conduct online classes. So, it is important for the schools to invest
in training teachers with latest technology updates.
In order to evaluate the benefits of
integrated education with online education NEP has identified various
agencies, such as the NETF, CIET, NIOS, IGNOU, IITs, NITs, etc.For
continuous improvement in the field of digital education.
NEP also
focuses on existing e-learning platforms like SWAYAM, DIKSHA, to provide
teachers with a structured, user-friendly, rich set of assistive tools for
monitoring progress of learners and educators.
Thus there
are numerous challenges in conducting online education unless it is blended
with experiential and activity-based learning. Appropriate standards and
policies laid by NEP 2020 with equity can also resolve various issues for
digital and online education.
