Use of Indian species as herbal mediciene in india :A review




Abstract

Indian spices have a history which is more than 7000 years old. Indian spices play a leading role in Indian national economy. The Rig-Veda and the Yajurveda mention about the use of turmeric for treating Jaundice and leprocy.Ayurveda describe the use of spices and their importance with various medicinal properties. According to the latest report, there are 109 species grown in different part of the world,of which 83 of these are grown in India,Thus from time immemorial ,India has been called “ the land of spices”

         Species in India were not only used in food they were also used to curve ailments. Indian species are rich in minerals, dietary polyphones and flavanoids compounds with strong antioxidants and antiinflamatory benefits. Species like ginger ,turmeric,fenugreek,fennels,clove,coriander ,cardamon, pepper,garlic ,ajwain  are used as medicines from ancient time .Spices are natural plants or vegetable products or a mixture of both which posses preservatives, antibiotic and anticeptic property. They are useful in fighting germs, have healing properties of wounds, aids digestion and boost immune function 

          Species as herbal medicines are commonly used for treating both infectious and non-infectious disease, on the other hand, present days antimicrobial used to treat bacterial infection caused by multiple drug resistance (MDR) total drug resistant (TDR) strains are more common and world is looking for alternative therapies to treat such infections.Herbal medicines are considered as better alternative for existing and emerging antimicrobial drug resistant (ADR) pathogens.
